Two families receive keys to their new Habitat homes

Sarnia, ON, February 26, 2025 – Today, new homes in Sarnia were the pride and joy of two families, thanks to Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton and their community partners and volunteers.  These homes will provide stability and security for the two families.

“Key ceremonies are always a very special time of the year for everyone at our office. There is a lot of hard work that goes into building homes and these two homes are no different.  I would like to thank all of the corporate build teams, our volunteers and staff for their time, dedication and passion,” said David Waters, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton.  “The availability of affordable housing is at an all-time low in our community and Habitat Sarnia/Lambton will continue to be an active proponent for advancement and social change, with a mindset towards affordable housing right here in our own backyard.”

The Government of Canada has committed $368,000 through the Affordable Housing Fund under the National Housing Strategy towards Habitat Sarnia/Lambton projects, including these homes.

“Two families will open doors to their homes today, and many more will benefit in years to come as a result of the work of Habitat for Humanity, and additional federal investments in affordable housing.” – The Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.

In total, since 2019, the Government of Canada has supported Habitat for Humanity Canada in reaching a goal of building 804 homes across Canada through a $65.1 million investment from the Government of Canada’s Affordable Housing Fund.

Habitat Sarnia/Lambton would like to thank the many generous supporters who helped turn homeownership into a reality for the two families, including the Government of Canada and the City of Sarnia.
